……back on in less than 2 minutes.  What happened?

Many of the listeners are familiar with my longtime co-host, The Captain.  Well, The Captain has been on a little hiatus.  So we were on the phone last week catching up and he was available at the last minute so we made plans for him to co-host this last Saturday.  I hadn’t made any announcement about him coming on the show so we talked about playing a little trick on the listeners and figured we’d work out the details of our evil plan on the way to the show.  So we did our “go green” thing and rode together (it’s really not for the environment…..it’s just because we’re too cheap and always trying to spend as little money as possible on gas).  So during the drive, we got it all worked out and kept laughing about how funny it would be.  We get to the station and we tell the guests that they have to be in character for our little scheme.  And might I add…..Oscar-winning performances by those two.

So the show started.  “And…..ACTION!”  The Captain “breaks into the station”.  I act like I didn’t know he was coming.  We’re all in character.  Everything is going as planned and I think, “Oh this is great! I bet we’re fooling all the listeners!  We should ALL be nominated for Oscars!”

Well, I forgot one tiny, little detail in my plan……

…….to tell the owner of the station.

He was listening to the show, didn’t know what was happening, so pulled the plug on the show, took me off the air.  He called the station freaked out thinking I was being held up or something.  I told him what we were doing, he says, “Well ya fooled ME!”, and he got the show back on the air within 2 minutes.

But take a listen to last Saturday’s show (12/6/08) and enjoy!  (of course, you can’t hear what was happening when we were off the air, but I had to share with ya’ll!)

Go to www.latalkradio.com - search for my show on the left (“The London Garcia Show”) and you’ll find it in the archives.

***ALSO, on that same show, our guest Russel Hornbeek of Music Saves Lives, brought with him Joslyn Davis, the online host of Project Runway.”  Good times… (those two were in on the ”station just got hijacked” performance)  By the way, Mr. Spielberg or Mr. Coppola, we’re all available for hire.

So I had such a cool interview yesterday with Araceli, who works with and is an appointed official for Governor Schwarzeneggar.  This is such a down-to-earth, easy-going, positive lady!  And my God does she work her tail off!!

So after the interview, we sat in the lobby (Araceli, “The Captain”, and me) hanging out, chatting.  When we first sat down, I was SO frustrated and irritated (a little pissed off to be honest) because whoever was in the studio before me screwed up some of the equipment and ultimately, it affected the recording of the show so I ended up with only about 25 minutes of an hour show recorded.  Anybody who knows me knows that really sets me off.  I put my heart and soul into my show and I’m pretty crazy when it comes to being a perfectionist and being consistent so when anything throws that off, it truly tests me.  The thing that goes through my mind is, “Dammit!  I just did an hour show with this amazing person and I only have 25 minutes of the show on record!”  I can even get a LITTLE dramatic about that kind of thing…….like “OK, bring on the soap opera!  Simmer down sister!”  So I was venting about it to Araceli and “The Captain”.

Then Araceli tells me about all of this stuff that went down on Friday with the governor.  There were TONS and TONS of people involved in setting up and executing this event they did (probably like all of their events I’m sure).  They announced some major projects going on, amazing plans to help people, a long term plan to end homelessness, accomplishments, achievements, you name it.  Araceli shared that it was such an amazing event for all involved because it was an opportunity to create massive awareness of the wonderful things the governor and his team are doing.

THEN…there was the press.  And they covered about 2% of any of this.  The coverage (if you want to call it that) was so small that I would go as far as to say that it probably undermined the efforts, the work, and the accomplishments.  I believe it was just a small statement and probably came off like, “The governor did this thing…..oh, can you pass the salt?”  However, I know they all carried on and they maintain their same level of commitment to serving the people of California, among others.

I am a member of the press and I am adamant about being a member that truly makes a difference.  The knucklehead press out there who mold themselves to please all others and come in with an agenda, well…they are a dime a dozen.  Gag me.  I don’t seek approval from whoever.  I don’t ask outside of myself.  I look inside.  Then, I ask……should I share this?  Does it help people?  Does it make them laugh?  Does it make people feel good?

Oh!  And about the “Instant State Change”?  Well, after Araceli shared that, I INSTANTLY got over my frustration about the recording ’faux pas’ on my show.  Nothing is a coincidence.

I don’t know how many people know this…and I certainly didn’t…Did you know that Governor Schwarzeneggar does not collect a salary?  And don’t you dare go there about all the ‘moola’ he made before this!  I wouldn’t want to do his job for all the money in the world!  He does it without pay, travels on his own dime, does everything on his own dime.  Araceli thought it was important to share that and I agree.

I am not interested in wasting energy on things like arguing, proving a point, talking about which political party is better than who.  It is truly a WASTE OF ENERGY!  (I am tested everytime I hear Elizabeth on “The View” get on her Huffy bike about this!  Will somebody get her a muzzle?!?!)  Really, I mean REALLY……does it matter?  It’s all a matter of opinion.  When I look at anything…….the music industry, radio, government/politics, LIFE……I just ask myself, “What can I do to be a part of the SOLUTION?  What will create healthy relationships among all people on the planet?  What can we do to understand each other more?  How can I have more compassion?”  Yes I have my moments and can be a ’stinker’ sometimes but these are my core beliefs and I truly believe this is the best way we can continually raise the well-being of all humanity.

Take a look at everything the governor’s office is doing:  www.gov.ca.gov - peruse the site…and there’s your press.

This last Sunday on my show, I interviewed Lee Kessler, author of “White King and The Doctor”.  For those of you who don’t get my email updates, let me get you up to speed on this fascinating individual:

Lee Kessler is a television actress, playwright, and stage director. Her career in Hollywood and New York spans 28 years and includes dozens of guest starring roles in episodic TV, mini-series and movies-of-the-week.  She had re-occurring roles in the series “Hill Street Blues” and “Matlock,” and was submitted for Emmy nomination twice for her starring roles in the movie “Collision Course,” and the ABC special, “Which Mother Is Mine?”  She also co-starred with Peter O’Toole in the movie “Creator.”
LEE KESSLER:

“Subsequent to the events of 9/11, I held the paradoxical hope that the devastation of that day might be the saving grace of our troubled country—that Americans would become more united. Instead, we have become more divided than at any point in my lifetime.

I asked myself what could be at work here? Was there possibly a “Fifth Column” in the United States whose purpose was to destroy our solidarity? A visit to the FBI’s “Most Wanted Terrorists” site revealed a provocative omission. I decided to probe it.

As a professional actress for nearly 30 years, who has had the opportunity to play historical figures, I challenged myself to figure out what the second-in-command of Al Qaeda was actually doing, and to see if his reach extended into the United States in ways we weren’t aware of.

It has been said we lacked imagination in the months and years preceding 9/11. Could I use imagination coupled with basic acting technology to unlock the mystery? I decided to try. Imagine that I did an exercise to create the back-story of Al Qaeda mastermind, Ayman Al-Zawahiri. In the process of discovering his driving motivation, I uncovered something so important that the outcome of the War on Terror depends upon it being known—something intelligence analysts, and the media analysts, appear to have missed.
And imagine that, as the events of 2003 and 2004 unfolded, all of my predictions and evaluations proved true. It seems I had “reconnected the dots” of current events. This is the picture that emerged, fictionalized in order to tell the story. It is fact, where the facts were known; and it is fiction where they were not—done to connect the people and events, and reveal a new picture.

What emerged is the story of “White King and the Doctor.”
At the risk of being involuntarily admitted to OBA (Over-Bloggers-Anonymous), I will share my insights thus far and thoughts about her book and the connection to real life in the world today in a separate blog.
Please do visit her website at:  www.whitekingandthedoctor.com
You can get a signed copy of the book through that site.  I personally think those copies will be worth some big bucks as the book (and the upcoming sequel) continues to grow in popularity and inevitably gets to the big screen.
