Sunday, 6/27 @ 3pm-PST, meet Craig Ferguson’s award-winning sister:

LYNN FERGUSON

Known for her voice in…

But Lynn is accomplished and impressive with a multitude of talents.

On July 7, 2010, Lynn Ferguson presents a one-night-only performance of her award-winning one-woman show, Heart & Sole. The piece has already played to sold-out audiences at the Melbourne Comedy Festival in Australia, Hong Kong, Hampstead Theatre, London, and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Heart & Sole is the story of Carol, an elementary school teacher in Scotland, who falls in love with David, a fish living in a tank at the local aquarium. From this absurd idea, Ferguson has spun a warmly twisted drama asking the question “can you love someone and not be like them?” Her talent for embodying vibrant personalities allows her to switch between three characters effortlessly. Helping to illustrate Carol’s dilemma, we meet her friend Elaine, a brassy housewife, and Sacha, a possibly cultish fish fanatic.

“ …a beautiful, wry, mature, life affirming piece.” – The Financial Times

“She left the audience quite literally not knowing whether to laugh or cry.” – The Times, London

This U.S. premiere will benefit SST’s programming, including a future theatre program for kids in the Los Angeles foster care systems.  SST Productions is a nonprofit community benefit organization established to create and present theatrical productions that entertain while educating and enlightening. SST has been home to several world and west coast premieres including Anthony Mora’s Modern Love and Mark Troy’s The Bitter Herbs. With an active international cultural exchange, SST presents theatre abroad (including at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe), and includes international productions and performers at the Los Angeles theatre.

Sunday, 6/20 @ 3pm-PST:   Light conversation with Cortes Alexander

Cortés Alexander grew up in Los Angeles, but had moved to New York when he was 13. His mother, a fashion designer, had her own shop on Madison Avenue that she ran for 15 years. While in New York, Alexander had attended the prestigious performing arts conservatory, Julliard, however, he would only last one semester.  Julliard was “very regimented” and he had other things that he wanted to do. “I wanted to surf and skateboard,” Alexander says. After leaving Julliard, he went to a high school that was attended by dancers, singers and actors that catered to the academic schedules around extracurricular activities which had suited Alexander much better. Consequently, he was exposed “to a real wide range of cultures.”

Cortés said that he didn’t start singing until he was around 17 or 18. “I started playing [the piano] for friends at their auditions,” Alexander says, when he was told that his voice “…was not bad. You should sing.” But his real “ah-ha” moment was when he closed a production program at his high school and the crowd was ecstatic.

Some of the singers that inspired Alexander were Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Mel Torme, however, his natural voice is low, and it is Jim Morrison that he has mentioned as an inspiration often because they shared the same octave.

Released on March 16, 2009, Cortés Alexander’s debut solo album, Swell, is a combination of smooth vocals and a mixture of pop, jazz, and R&B. “I didn’t intend to make something for everyone,” Alexander explains. “I wanted to make a record, for a lack of a better word, of music that I thought was really good.”

‘Really good’ is quite an understatement. With the production talents of McKay Garner, who has worked with several top artists including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Michael Bublé and Flogging Molly, to name just a few, Alexander credits Garner for finding the sound that makes Swell what it is. The album contains 16 songs including three covers and 10 originals by Alexander himself who says that every song on the album has a story.

Roam, for instance, was originally recorded by the The B52’s. “I had this idea,” Alexander recalls. “I remember seeing [the Shakespeare play] Twelfth Night. The fool sang (he sings ‘O mistress mine, where are you roaming?’) and I loved it. Roam worked our perfectly.” The other covers include The Monkees classic Last Train to Clarksville and the first song recorded with Garner, The Association’s Never My Love.

Among Alexander’s originals are two songs that hit close to home. The Parade was inspired by his half brother “…who had a hard time with drugs and alcohol,” he explains.  He was homeless living in New York…I was in SoHo and the sky literally started getting gray and it began to rain. As I looked up I see this guy with a shopping cart. I sped up and as we brushed we made eye to eye contact. It was my brother.

Alexander had started his album three years ago. One day as he was driving down Santa Monica Boulevard after a dentist appointment he sees this Rolls Royce on the opposite side of the street and noticed Liza Minnelli was behind the wheel. After making eye contact with one another, Liza says to Cortés, ‘Follow me!’  He turns around and they parked their cars. “We had walked up and down Rodeo Drive, catching up,” Alexander says. After having some lunch and doing some shopping, he and Liza get into his car so he can play her some of his songs. “I had played ‘Love’ll Come & Do Just That’ for her and she says, ‘That’s wonderful baby! Just change the last note.” Love’ll Come & Do Just That was written by Helen Slater who starred as Supergirl in the 1984 film of the same name.

It was during this visit, Alexander says, that Liza had convinced him to go on the road with her once again.  ’Do you want in?’ she asks me. I tell her that I’m working on this album and she says, ‘Come to the show and we’ll talk about it then.’  He went to New York that winter and toured with Liza for the next three years in the show that later became the Tony Award-winning (for Best Special Theatrical Event) Liza’s At The Palace.

When asked about if he would consider reuniting with The Tonics: “It’s funny you should ask that question at this particular time,” Alexander says with a laugh. “Now this just happened…We have kept in touch since we all moved to California…a producer contacts me through Facebook about getting together and I was like, ‘Why not? Let’s give it a shot.’…Last night was our first rehearsal.”

Cortés Alexander has known Liza Minnelli for 17 years and has performed with her on two tours for seven years and then together again having filmed “Liza’s At The Palace” inside the Hollywood Theater at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas last September (2009).

Sunday, June 13 at 3:00pm-PST:   it’s a killer interview

About “Uncle Creepy”:

Uncle Creepy was born the son of a circus magician and lived a life of hardship amongst the carny freaks. After a brief stint as a knife thrower, he was forced to run away from the circus due to frequent violent confrontations with the Lobster Boy.

Once on the road at the age of 6, he was taken in by a clan of Aboriginal tribesmen and forced to run with a pack of wolves in order to hone his killer instincts. At the age of 7 Creepy decided to leave his pack and head to LA to find his fortune. Once there he landed a gig as an actor and was a frequent extra on Starsky & Hutch, playing the role of Huggie Bear’s adopted son, Lil’ White Foo’. After the show was cancelled, Creepy moved to New York City, where he got his first real break into the American workforce as a gravedigger. Not having enough cash to afford a car just yet, he had to resort to getting around on his Schwinn unicycle. One day after getting pulled over for speeding and resisting arrest, NY’s finest beat Creepy down ala Rodney King and locked him up for 2 years. While in jail Creepy became a tattoo artist and master whittler. To this day, a collection of tiny wooden ducks and a bust of Little Richard stand on display in the recreation area at Riker’s Island, a reminder of his amazing craftsmanship.

Upon being paroled, he went back to his roots as a carny and landed a job at the Big Apple Circus as a fire eater. Being the humanitarian that he is, Creepy thought it was quite cruel to leave the lions caged up like that, so he freed them in the name of Mandela. This resulted in the deaths of 6 clowns, the ringmaster, and Jed, the ferris wheel operator. As you can imagine, this did not go over too well with the higher-ups, and he was soon out on his ass. With plenty of free time on his hands, he took up yodeling and the polka. An avid polka dancer, Creepy quickly rose to stardom as “The Polka King,” a name given to him by his many fans.

Uncle Creepy appeared numerous times on Arsenio in his trademark fez and kilt. While on the show for the umpteenth time, he met Minnie Pearl, who was there to promote her new cookbook Cajun Cookin’ with Minnie, and old UC fell in love for the first time in his life. He and Minnie began a 4-year relationship, in which he taught her the nuances of polka and she enlightened him to the joys of hillbilly humor. Even though life was swell, eventually Minnie’s Cajun cooking triggered a severe gastrointestinal disorder in his bowels, and now it’s rumored that he lives on a strict diet of woodshavings, carrot juice, anchovies, and sangria.

Years later Uncle Creepy found his true calling — becoming a pop culture icon. He can now be found writing for the world’s most hardcore horror website DreadCentral.com. There’s is no word on when or if he will ever polka again.

My job is very simple Sunday:   find out if any of that sh** is true

Join me.  No seriously, join me.  Don’t leave me alone with this dude.

Sunday, June 6 @ 3:00pm-PST:   SHEN YUN PERFORMING ARTS

Shen Yun Performing Arts came into being in 2006 with a vision of cultural renewal. It was then that leading Chinese artists and several small performance companies joined together to revive an artistic tradition. For its first two-plus years the company was known as Divine Performing Arts.

Today, Shen Yun is proud to consist of three dance companies, three orchestras, and a host of choreographers, composers, costume designers, backdrop artists, and artistic staff.

The response to Shen Yun’s productions has been phenomenal. Laughter, tears, and standing ovations are a common sight. In its inaugural 2007 season the company performed for some 200,000 people. The following year, in 2008, the number swelled to over 500,000, and continued to climb in 2009 with an audience of some 800,000.

Shen Yun has already graced many of the world’s greatest stages, including New York’s Radio City Music Hall, London’s Royal Festival Hall, Washington DC’s Kennedy Center, and Paris’ Le Palais de Congrès.

Each year Shen Yun Performing Arts travels the world, performing on tour across Europe, North and South America, Oceania, and Asia.

Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is a nonprofit organization that is independent of China’s communist regime and which seeks to revive the true, five-millennia-old artistic tradition of China that thrived before decades of suppression by the Chinese communist party. The company seeks to breathe new life into traditional Chinese culture while providing audiences everywhere with an experience of sublime beauty.

REVIEWS:

“Extraordinary, so beautiful and colorful, exceptional dances, and music, and quite a wonderful show. I think it’s a wonderful opportunity to become more aware of the tradition of the country through this wonderful entertainment.”
~ Frank Mancuso, Former CEO of Paramount Pictures

“The performances are inspired, the costumes and scenery enchanting, and the show as a whole a delight to experience.  And besides its professional excellence, the Spectacular exudes a wonderfully positive karma. These beautiful, gifted people are expressing something that’s both pure and good.”
~ Philadelphia Weekly

“Boldly ambitious and enormously popular… a visually dazzling tour of 5,000 years of Chinese history and culture… carefully designed, richly costumed pieces – everything from colorful handkerchief dances, Imperial-style dances in high platform shoes, drum dances, folk dances… a heady blend of the ancient and modern, of traditional Chinese instruments and their Western counterparts, and contemporary experiences… a grand cavalcade of Chinese cultural scenes.”
~ San Francisco Chronicle

“An extravagantly beautiful production… Lavish production numbers, colorful sets, dazzling costumes, brilliant choreography, and booming Tang dynasty drums.”
~ BroadwayWorld.com

“Indisputably a spectacle… The women, meanwhile, make for a beautiful and haunting ensemble. They are as delicate as they are quick, and their skills include a nimble mastery of traditional talents, such as the classic fan dance… Some of the most jaw-dropping moments came from the thunderous intensity of a solo pianist named Yan Li.”
~ Chicago Tribune

“Incredible… Groundbreaking… The number one way for New York families to celebrate the New Year!”
~ MSNBC News

“Gorgeous. Beautiful!”
~ WABC Eyewitness News

“The show was great. Terrific in all ways. A marvelous program… Everything done today was highly professional in every single way. We really enjoyed it. I had no idea of the complexity of the Chinese style and the skill it takes… a remarkable achievement.”
~ Ted Kavanau, Founding Senior Producer of CNN

“Shen Yun Performing Arts has the best show.”
~ Annette Lu, Vice President, Republic of China

“The entire production is superb. It has grace. It has spectacle. It has unique qualities that you cannot see in any other production and, perhaps, five thousand years of culture—you may expect nothing less than this.”
~ Alan Capper, President, Foreign Press Association

“A beautiful demonstration of Chinese culture through dance and music—very meaningful and very beautiful. It’s a beautiful array of talent and costumes and scenery that’s not just there for show but that is integrated into the performance. I think it’s beautifully choreographed on all levels.”
~ David Friend, VP and News Director, WCBS

“SUPERB!!! You did a magnificent job… You really outdid yourselves. Every performance was stunning. Amazing, amazing, amazing.”
~ Aaron Cohen, Producer, WNYC

Not the end of the world.  That’s 2012.

This Sunday, you get to hear from one very special individual who has an eye for star quality and places them in movies for powerhouse directors like Steven Spielberg, the latest:  the upcoming The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn  (COMING 2011)

and Peter Jackson (The Lovely Bones, King Kong, The Lord of the Rings), Robert Zemeckis (A Christmas Carol), the list goes on and on…

And before anyone really knew who this guy was over 23 years ago, she told the producers of “21 Jump Street”:  THAT right there…is a star.”

Fast forward to now and about 100 projects later, I don’t think it’s any coincidence that after she cast the popular Brit, Max Ryan in Death Race

…that it led him to being the hottest thing talked about in this little gig:

What does it take to be a star?  Be hot?  Be funny?  Be WHAT?  Who the hell knows…?

But it’s probably a good idea to BE tuned in tomorrow @ 3:00pm-PST to pick up a gem or two.

Jack & Jill went up the hill and…well, things didn’t turn out so peachy for them.  But this Jack climbed a mountain and did it in style…

What happened along the way?

Designed a whole lotta goodness for Tommy (as he’s known around the office)

And more designing, this time for Levi’s ”Slates” brand

Oh…wait…did I tell you he breaks records as a swimmer?  Yeah, there’s that too.

Did a stint on this little show

Well, he’s major (and you know it) so these guys asked him to represent them.

That’s all you’re gettin…for now.  What takes most people down is what Jack uses to bring up the world around him.

Find out what I’m talking about Sunday @ 3:00pm-PST (details of “how to listen” below)

This Sunday, May 16 at 3:00pm-PST, my favorite kind of story:

The average age of a player entering the NFL is 22, the average NFL career lasts only three and a half years and most players will leave the game long before they turn 30.

Vincent Pagazza is 43 years old, and he wants to play in the NFL. Since NFL’s inception in 1920, the league has only seen 28 players over the age of 40.

Vincent had a real shot once, although he didn’t step foot onto a football field until his senior year of high school, it was the incredible catches and record-breaking field goals that got the attention of college recruiters. But, when the high school football season ended in 1984, he set his helmet on the bench and walked away from the game.

Now, 25 years later, Vincent is donning cleats and strapping on a helmet, looking for another shot. With the advice and coaching help of former NFL kicker Mike Lansford, he’s back on the field, alongside players half his age, he is no longer asking himself, “What if?”

Follow Vincent’s journey, a man searching for self-fulfillment and a second chance at a dream that never left him for over two decades.

-Jennifer Mathiasen

This is the story of Vincent Pagazza, a man who dares to dream and defy everything to hear twelve little words:

“There are 3 seconds left on the clock — here comes the kicker…”

Also on the show, MIKE LANSFORD, the last barefoot kicker in the NFL.

Mike Lansford is recognized as one of the best field goal kickers in National Football League history. He played with the Los Angeles Rams from 1982-90 and made 10 game winning kicks without a miss. He is the Rams all-time scoring leader with 789 points and kicked 158 field goals in his career.

What would cause a Hollywood stunt actor to turn down an interview by a lady that runs this little talk show?

Sunday, you’ll find out how Oprah Winfrey inspired Ron Moss to come up with what is being hailed as the next Harry Potter.

Ron’s new book, The Wizard Next Door, takes it’s readers on a journey of fantasy and imagination, much like the Harry Potter books, except Ron is on a mission to change lives with his books.

Again, it’s a story you won’t want to miss!  I’m all about a good story and this one certainly does not disapppoint!
