WHO ARE “THE HUGE HEFNERS”?

Familiar…kinda, sorta.  Not exactly  who you might think.

THE HUGE HEFNERS were one of the original MUSIC BOXX artists (one of my fav’s) and I was thrilled to hear that their journey in the world of music is quickly moving upward.

Notable achievements include:

They are also favorites of the Vanderbilt radio station 91.1 WRVU in Nashville and 102.9 The Buzz.  MUCH MORE to come for these guys.

 WHAT IS “HEARTS OF FIRE”?

WHO IS BOB BALLARD?

Well, let me ask you this:  If YOU traveled to homeless shelters from Washington D.C. to San Diego, would you come back with?  BOB BALLARD (”Hearts of Fire”) came back with something remarkable and totally unforgettable.

Take a look:

For starters, “HEARTS OF FIRE” found a way to make the invisible visible.

WE ARE REALLY NOT THAT DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER.

So what about Bob?   A certified student of the Berklee College of Music and a musician, went to business school and started his own CPA firm in Boston specializing in government grants and contracts. His experience in the arts and working on grants has proven a great fit with “Hearts of Fire”, but he knew there was more work than he could handle and fundraising quickly became a top priority.

“We’re like a Johnny Appleseed. We’re just scratching the surface with this,” said Ballard.

In a time when so many in this country see “the glass half empty”, I invite you to hear a wonderful story about “the glass half full”.

I did a little research and found that one guy, Ryan, is at the helm of these events.  I was curious.  One thing led to another, we chatted on the phone, and it was obvious that Ryan is just a real cool guy who is very focused and is making it happen.  Our conversation wasn’t long but it was obvious that there’s a success story here that could and will inspire alot of people.

—PART 2—

WHO IS Kyle Mohan?

Drifter?  Dreamer?  BOTH.

Part of a fast-growing, very popular scene, otherwise known as “drift racing”,  Kyle Mohan has been at ground zero of America’s discovery of drifting since it first landed on these shores. In the first few seconds that he observed a car being danced sideways, tires smoking and engine screaming, Kyle decided to combine his love of rotary-powered Mazdas with this new phenomenon.  While most drivers showed up at amateur drift competitions and track days in Nissan Silvias, Mohan was often the only one in a FB Mazda RX-7.  It was the path less traveled, but that car – built and maintained by Kyle – served Mohan well as he learned his craft behind the wheel.  Ironically enough, he would make his professional drifting debut in a Nissan!

Kyle initially competed for JIC during the 2005 season, then Grenade during 2006, but when Grenade called it quits midway through the year, he was left without a ride.  So he built his own – an FC Mazda RX-7, which was his ride throughout the 2007 season in both the Pro Championship and Team Drift competitions. Kyle and his RX-7 came back for more in the 2008 season.

Additionally, Kyle has been named to be one of the lead drivers of the Allstars/Mazda Team Drift, continuing to compete in Team Drift competitions.

Kyle has been featured in S3 Magazine, DSport, UrbanRacer.com, to name a few.  He wrapped up 2008 quite nicely coming in among the Final Four at 2008 Formula Drift Long Beach.

COMMITTED?  YOU BET.

THE PRESS TELEGRAM jumped right in and shared in the buzz (below):

“It’s literally a full-time job on top of a full-time job,” said Mohan, “but I wouldn’t imagine doing anything different with myself.”

Sponsors Mazdatrix, Mazda and Cooper Tire shoulder about half the expense of running his team.  Mohan estimates that about $20,000 of his own money is invested into the RX-7.

Privateering has a steep learning curve.  Mohan failed to qualify for Round One - staged in his hometown of Long Beach - and missed a New Jersey race when the truck trailer housing his Mazda was totaled en route to the East Coast by a semi during an overnight trip. In Seattle, his oil line came off while he was on the track, blowing up the car’s motor days before an appearance for Mazda in San Jose.

Mohan made it, the RX-7 intact and ready for show.

“That moment was a huge accomplishment for me,” Mohan said. “And in the eyes of the sponsors, it showed my commitment.”

Mohan ended the 2007 season in 37th place.  Not bad for a 17-year-old Lakewood High student who got his start in hands-on automotive design as a floorsweep at Mazdatrix.

He’s since parlayed two seemingly opposing disciplines - art and automotive craft - to run his team.  “As an artist, I take a lot of pride in what I do. It’s like my canvas on the track,” Mohan said.  “To actually get out there and compete in a car I built … I can’t even put it in words.”

On the show this Saturday, 3/7 @ 5:00pm:

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGES OF OUR TIME!

Tune in “LIVE” online at:  www.latalkradio.com (or through a Blackberry or iPhone - instructions on www.latalkradio.com)

I was watching “The Tonight Show” the other night (with none other than Jay Leno) and saw a sharp looking gentleman sitting next to Kevin Bacon talking about his film, “Fuel”.  I have to admit…..I don’t catch alot of the late night talk shows, but it was ironic that I caught this one.  And it made me think…..ALOT.  Then I got an email from a friend of mine about this same individual and the film.  I took it as a little sign.  So I got in touch with his group to see about having him on the show and, well…here we are!

This individual is Josh Tickell, the director of the hit film, “Fuel” and author of “Biodiesel America”.  It wasn’t until I saw the film that I got the full impact of Josh’s commitment, the cause, what is really going on, and WHAT WE CAN DO!

The film features Julia Roberts, Woody Harrelson, Willy Nelson, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Sheryl Crow, former President Jimmy Carter, Neil Young, and Richard Branson (Virgin Group chairman), to name a few.  To me, what stood out above and beyond the ’star power’ of these people appearing in the film is their extraordinary commitment to humanity and to the greater good of every living thing.

Check out the trailer!  http://thefuelfilm.com/ - and you can also see how many film festivals have taken notice of the film and the long list of awards thus far.

Also…give yourself a good time and a little inspiration.  Listen to one of the archives of “The London Garcia Show” anytime.  Simple go to:  http://www.latalkradio.com/London.php or www.londongarcia.com (click on the “Radio Show”  tab).

Mar 01

Ahhhh…..I’m just so ready for the people of this country (seems to be the majority) to make up their minds that their NOW or their FUTURE is what we all say it’s going to be.

The majority (like 99%) of the media says everything horrible that there can be said about the economy and how hard or long it’s going to be before things get better.  Just as the bad news spirals out of control, so does the good.

Find the good that exists NOW:

  • “Man, I had the most bad ass breakfast burrito today!”  (that’s usually mine, ha ha)
  • “I’m having the best ‘Hair Day’ I’ve had in a long time!
  • “I remembered something that my kid/niece/friend’s kid said and I couldn’t stop laughing.”  (and on and on and on…….)

Shift the conversation.  Remember something good or recognize something good happening now and pass along that good feeling.

I truly believe that the state of our nation is a result of momentum in the most disempowering direction (yes, I realize other factors exist).  One of things we can do immediately that WILL make an impact is recognize the good, find it, whatever you have to do.  Be grateful for it.  Share it.  Keep passing it on.

Regardless of what I am experiencing personally (and I am definitely in the company of those MANY who have had major challenges), I just want to feel good and be grateful and give whatever great energy I can give to anybody out there.

Spring is coming.  The ‘lack of’ anything or tough times can’t take that away from us.  ENJOY AND BE BLESSED BY EVERY GOOD THING YOU SEE, HEAR, FEEL, OR CAN IMAGINE.
